What is Heartsupport?
Heartsupport, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization incorporated in 2011 reflecting the vision of its founder, Jake Luhrs, frontman of the world-famous metal band, August Burns Red.
On tour, fans would share raw stories about addiction, suicide, self-harm, fear, war, hopelessness, and more. As a result, Jake created an online community with its own forum, groups, and events where people could open up about their struggles and get support in improving their mental health.
We use music to start mental health conversations with people who otherwise would not seek help. Our focus is to get people talking about their mental health because unvoiced problems canât be solved.
We start conversations on the social media platforms that people are already using like Instagram, Facebook, YouTube, and we offer peer support with online programs and resources.
Our Values
The work we do is steeped in an ethos established by our founder, and each team member is selected for and expected to embody the heart of HeartSupport.
Five Pillars:
It doesnât matter the color of your skin, what you believe in, who you love, what youâve done or whatâs been done to you, you are accepted at HeartSupport.
This falls into our community guidelines, our employee handbook, and our Board of Director commitments.
No agendas:
We operate without political, religious or any other agenda than the true mission of helping give aid through love, wisdom and relational support on mental health. We do not adopt political trends or agendas of any kind. We accept all. We love all, and we do our best to give an unconditional love to all we reach, speak or confront.
HeartSupport is in a very unique place where we do not adopt trends, âcausesâ, or âagendasâ by mass media, society, groups, organizations, corporations or any other entity but HeartSupport and HeartSupportâs values, mission and vision alone. That means we may abstain from or remain separate from some activities, celebrations or movements that are outside of HeartSupport.
