• We all matter and deserve to be loved.

To hold this as a universal, unshakeable truth is firm foundation for a peer supporter. When we do, we become a lighthouse shining for those who are lost with a steady message: “You matter, and I care.”

There will be times where this simple belief, embodied in these simple words, can wake someone up to a worthiness that gives them a reason to live.

  • We are all broken.

There is a humility that comes in the acknowledgment of our common humanity. To be human is to be broken.

People can get stuck in moral arrogance when they feel superior to others who err with more severity.

When we access a humility that says - whatever evil someone else has caused, I have experienced the root of it in my own heart - we can become an oasis of compassion for those who may struggle with deep shame.

  • We all deserve a chance to grow.

It is easier to wish deep within ourselves for the betterment of another if we believe first in their fundamental value and second in our common struggle. We want for them to succeed, as we would want another to wish for us.

People who come to HeartSupport - regardless of how broken they may be - have had an experience with humility. They realize the way they’ve been going is not working, and they desire to change.

We are to be people who believe they deserve a chance to do so.
