It works

Research shows these four practices improve your mental health:

You’ll be paired with a mentor who has exceptional empathy and compassion and is highly trained in listening.

Having someone deeply listen to you

Spending time with people who have overcome struggles similar to yours

You’ll be paired with a mentor who has confidence in their own mental health and can relate to the struggles that you face.

Having someone who unconditionally accepts and believes in you

You’ll be paired with a mentor who will accept and love you regardless of who you love, the color of your skin, what you believe, what you’ve done, or what’s been done to you.

Having someone help you see the positive in yourself and in your circumstances

You’ll be paired with a mentor who can help you see the difficulties in life from a different and encouraging perspective.

If you’re under 18, you can check out our Youth Volunteer Team.

  • Meet every week with your mentor to talk about your life. Highs, lows and everything in between. They’re here to help you process those things and grow in confidence in handling it all.

  • That’s a normal part of the process. Sometimes it’s hard to talk to people we don’t know or even know what’s “wrong” with our lives to be able to share.

Mentors help you get talking and, over time, as your relationship develops, those conversations get deeper and more impactful.

The important part is to keep showing up.

  • Your MEA checks in with you every month and helps address issues you’re facing. You’re safe to voice those feelings and you’ll have an advocate who will help solve any problems that arise.
