Why This Matters
The reality
We All Know There’s A Problem
Poor mental health is ravaging the American landscape, and most insurance providers don’t offer help. Counseling is expensive, and the rising cost of care makes treatment unaffordable.
Anxiety
Between 2016 and 2017, there’s been a 36% jump in anxiety and 1 in 3 adolescents will experience an anxiety disorder.
suicide
Suicide is the second leading cause of death among individuals age 10-34, and roughly 20 veterans a day take their own lives. Veterans accounted for 14 percent of all adult suicide deaths in the U.S. in 2016.
depression
35% of college students said they “felt so depressed that it was difficult to function” and by 2020, depression will be the second leading cause of world disability.
loneliness
In a recent survey by Cigna health insurance, 54% of Americans claimed they chronically felt alone or that no one knew them. Loneliness has been estimated to shorten a person’s life by 15 years.

But these aren’t just statistics
They’re Our Family, Friends, & Coworkers
-
I found this community when I was at my worst and was broken and alone. You taught me how to live, how to recover, and how to grow from my struggles. They no longer define me.
HeartSupport is a first responder triage community working day and night to eradicate these statistics and replace them with stories of growth and change. By utilizing technology, leveraging community, and creating relevant resources for a digital generation we’re beginning to chip away at mental health crisis.
Each year we impact thousands of men and women by partnering with musicians from the industry, as well as offering peer-to-peer mentoring and support, recovery programs, daily live streams, educational and faith-based teachings, and access to discounted counseling. With this outlook and resolve we watch them break free from cycles of addiction, suicide ideation, depression, sexual abuse, relationship issues, self-harm, and hopelessness.

Awards and Recognition
The Classy Awards

In 2017, HeartSupport was named as one of the Top 100 non-profits in the world for social innovation at the Classy Awards. Over 3,000 non-profits worldwide were reviewed and they selected us as one tackling some of society’s toughest issues and making waves in the process.

The Alternative Press Music Awards (APMAs)
In 2015, HeartSupport was nominated for a philanthropy award at the APMAs because of our success in transforming the lives and mental health of fans in the music industry. We lost that year, but came back stronger and more determined. The following year in 2016 we won non-profit of the year at the APMAs, shocking even our founder, Jake Luhrs. The competition ranged from several artists and worthy organizations like the National Breast Cancer Foundation and Doctors Without Borders.
