Sunday Bible Study: James 1:22 LETS BE DOERS OF THE WORD!

James 1:22

“But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves”.

Honestly this is one of the biggest issues with followers of Christ. We are imperfect and we sin.. we make mistakes and we often are very hard headed. We struggle with pride and greed, envy and jealousy. We often mislead people by wanting to live like Christ, yet we judge like God? We as followers of Christ aren’t perfect, yet we are doing our best to follow the one who is (Jesus).

This scripture is telling us to be doers of the scripture not just hear it. Just hearing the word of the Bible isn’t being a follower. When you hear something and then you ignore, or don’t apply it to your life.. you are just hearing the message. That is not following. If you do what you hear, that is taking in the message and applying it to your life which brings forth change and that change is the transformation of you being you to you living out more like Jesus.

I know their is a lot of things that the bible speaks of! Do not do this, don’t do that, do this, we are called to do this etc..

How about we start with the two commandments.

The first commandment Matthew 22:37-40

Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’[a] 38 This is the first and greatest commandment. 39 And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’[b] 40 All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.

The second commandment Matthew 7:12

“So in everything do to others what you would have them do to you, for this sums up the law and the prophets.”

So lets start with those two commandments and see how that effects our lives. Ones who follow Christ and how it effects other people around us. These are two pretty simple sounding rules, however the struggle with these is ourselves.. we aren’t always the most thankful people, loving people, or just people. So today, maybe try your best to keep this scripture in mind and when things get tough through the day or you want to do the opposite of these commandments. Bring them to the front of your mind and make a change!

I like the ending bro,”Bring them to the front of your mind and make a change”.I think that is definetely something we all can work on daily, especially with alot of distraction around. But knowing how Jesus thinks and applying His truth to your mind really does bring a change and everyday it begins to grow more natural as you grow in relationship with Jesus.Making Jesus apart of every part of your day.
